CAS Student Central Summer Program

The CAS Student Central Summer Program is a free eight-week online program, designed by practicing actuaries to support university students’ career growth by providing technical and soft skill development, as well as mentorships and networking opportunities.

The program, originally established to fill the void created by canceled internships in 2020, has quickly become one of our most popular interactive professional and educational experiences for members of CAS Student Central.

Over the course of the eight-week program, participants will gain:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep dive into property and casualty actuarial topics – including pricing, reserving, and data visualization – through engaging weekly modules.
  • Professional Mentorship: Weekly sessions with experienced actuaries who will guide your learning and career growth.
  • Soft Skills Development: Enhance your resume, interview techniques, and professional communication.
  • Real-World Experience: Collaborate in a team-based case competition, addressing a real-life actuarial problem with prizes for the winning teams.

Participants will spend approximately 10 to 15 hours a week participating in the program and are expected to attend the program in its eight-week entirety. Presentations and materials will be in English. Successful participants will earn a digital badge from the CAS to showcase their achievement. t.

Asia Summer Program

If you attend a university located in Asia or the Pacific, please apply for the Asia Summer Program. The  Asia Summer Program is specially designed for students preparing for actuarial careers  in the region.

Participants will explore topics including:

  • Pricing and reserving fundamentals
  • Predictive analytics and data applications
  • Reinsurance concepts
  • IFRS-17 and evolving regulatory frameworks
  • Emerging topics such as Insurtech and AI

Students will attend weekly lectures and office hours, collaborate with peers across the region, and participate in a case competition to apply their learning to a real-world actuarial problem.

Self-Paced Learning Option

In previous years, the CAS Student Central Summer Program offered a self-paced Independent Summer Program option. Beginning in 2026, this option has been replaced by the CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program, a new self-paced learning experience designed to introduce students to key property and casualty actuarial concepts.

The CAS P&C Actuarial Essentials Program allows students to explore foundational topics such as pricing, reserving, and data analytics through flexible, on-demand modules that can be completed at their own pace. This program is ideal for students who want to build their understanding of the P&C actuarial field but cannot commit to the scheduled mentor-led summer program.

Who Should Apply?

The program is geared towards university students who are interested in gaining actuarial experience and knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry. It is an exciting development opportunity for students who do not have an internship lined up for the upcoming summer. We welcome applications from across the globe.

We encourage students at schools without actuarial programs, as well as those who recently learned about actuarial careers, to apply. This program will also be beneficial to students who attend an actuarial program but have limited exposure to property and casualty topics or limited access to actuarial internships.

The CAS is committed to providing universal access to all of our programs. Any accommodation requests can be submitted during the program enrollment process once admissions notifications have been circulated.

Applications will open annually in early spring. To receive notifications on the official opening of applications, please sign up for CAS Student Central. New members can easily register by following these instructions.
